Malden Season 1 Prelude

The island of Malden is agricultural-centric, with common exports including wine products, olives and dairy goods. Malden is particularly famous for its goat cheese produced in the town of La Pessagne. It is considered a delicacy both domestically and abroad, with their products becoming well-known even in the Kingdom of Sahrani. Malden also relies heavily on tourism. There are many picturesque sights and beautiful beaches, while numerous places of worship attract significant numbers of tourists and pilgrims annually.

Conditions on the island nation have been deteriorating for some time. Ties between Malden and the U.S. began to collapse with the onset of the global financial crisis in 2007. In the following years changes in the balance of power throughout the world combined with the onset of an economic depression throughout Western nations ended US involvement with Malden. In 2020 a US Base Realignment and Closure Committee recommendation led to the hasty and poorly planned U.S. withdrawal from its bases on the island.

The resulting vacuum led to a downturn in the island economy and increases in crime. The Kingdom of Sahrani began to issue threats to the Malden Island Governing Council over the deteriorating conditions on the island including the increasingly hostile treatment of Sahranians visiting Malden for business and tourism. Princess Isabella also established high tariffs on Malden wine and cheese products destined for The Kingdom and secondary tariffs for any other nation trading with Malden. The rhetoric continued to escalate between the two sides and then Sahrani, who recently established the Province of Botana in the Federal Republic of Fapovo (shout out to  IceBreakr) dispatched an expeditionary force to put more pressure on Malden.  

There was a growing concern among the Malden elite about the need to take action to deter a potential Sahrani invasion and also to prevent civil unrest due to worsening conditions on the island. Eventually the Malden Island Governing Council issued orders to the Malden Defense Forces (MDF) and island law enforcement agencies to tighten control over the island and citizens. Unfortunately these measures became increasingly violent and tyrannic in an effort to control the population. The tension on the island increased by the hour.

Its ironic that at this same time, the shadowy rebel legend Petros and a few members of the CCM (Chernarus Communist Militia) arrived on Malden.  Having recently led a successful liberation of Chernarus, Petros knew the residents of Malden would be in need of experienced help. Soon he discovered a resistance group of local residents (including the emerging leader SonofSunTzu) and offered assistance in their struggle. They agreed that action must be taken quickly to liberate the people of Malden and began to plan a response.

Season  2 The Fapovo Divide Prelude

The Fapovo Divide
After the dust settled on Malden, the fragile peace in the world shattered once more. Fapovo, a small island nation divided between the independent Fapovo region in the southwest and Botana Province (governed by the Kingdom of Sahrani)  in the northeast, has become the latest flashpoint in Sahrani’s long shadow war.

For nearly a decade, the border between Fapovo and Botana was little more than a line on a map. Border checkpoints remained, but they were only occasionally staffed, and few actually checked documents. The Royal Army Corps of Sahrani (RACS) quietly expanded its presence under the pretense of “security cooperation,” building outposts, seizing key infrastructure, and embedding advisers in local garrisons. The Fapovo Governing Council (FGC)—weak and fractured—turned a blind eye in exchange for Sahrani “development aid.”

But the Sahrani Liberation Army (SLA), exiled since the Kingdom’s reunification, saw the writing on the wall. From hidden ports and mountain airstrips, SLA operatives smuggled men and materiel into Fapovo’s southwestern valleys from their stockpiles throughout the world. Over time, they infiltrated the FGC and stoked anti-Sahrani sentiment among the working class and veterans. Their message was clear: Fapovo would not be annexed quietly.  When the time was right, they began a full scale invasion of Fapovo.

Amid this chaos, an old enemy resurfaced. ION Services, once known as Black Element, has returned under contract with “unidentified foreign investors.” Officially, they are here to “protect Sahrani economic interests” and secure infrastructure. Unofficially, they train local militias, conduct black operations, and manipulate both sides to ensure that Fapovo remains unstable and profitable for their "investors".

ION’s history with the Kingdom of Sahrani runs deep. Two decades ago, Queen Isabella Ximénez secretly hired a Black Element team—Royal Flush—to eliminate rebel threats in northern Sahrani. When the team turned on her after discovering her war crimes, they were disavowed, and their names erased. The scandal buried ION’s predecessor, but the legacy of betrayal continues to shape their operations today.

Now, on Fapovo, ION has returned to old habits—arming rivals, funding insurgents, and spreading misinformation to keep the island divided. To the east, RACS fortifies the cities under royal banners. To the west, the SLA promises “liberation” through a military invasion. And in the middle of it all stands a battered but unbroken resistance.

The Call from Fapovo

The Freedom and Independence Army (FIA)—once proud defenders of Fapovo’s sovereignty—has been fighting a losing guerrilla war against RACS occupation and the encroaching SLA insurgency. Their numbers have dwindled, supplies run thin, and leadership has fractured under years of attrition.

When news of Petros and the enigmatic Son of Sun Tzu’s victory on Malden reached Fapovo, it reignited a spark long thought extinguished. The tale of a small resistance overthrowing both RACS and the Malden Defense Forces spread like wildfire through the underground.

The FIA leadership sent a desperate encoded plea across the Aegean:

“The enemy multiplies. We fight three wars at once. Help us achieve what you did for Malden.”

Answering the call, Petros and Son of Sun Tzu arrived quietly on Fapovo aboard a smuggler’s trawler, bringing a handful of hardened Malden veterans and the experience of a revolution hard-won. Their mission is clear but fraught with peril: unite the fractured resistance, expel RACS occupation forces, drive out SLA infiltrators, and neutralize ION’s shadow operations.

In a land where every side calls itself the liberator, the FIA must once again become the sword of the people—or die as another forgotten rebellion on another forgotten island.

The stage is set. The moment is here. Can The Fapovo Divide be resolved?
